Better teams.
Better decisions.
Better outcomes.

"Where are we going?"
"Why is this taking so long?"
"Are we doing the right thing?"

I help founders, product and technology teams succeed faster doing by the right things, not just more things.

Clearer, Better, Faster

Most teams aren't failing - they're overloaded, misaligned, or unclear about what matters.

They're doing too much. Goals aren't clear. Scopes are vague. And the tech often adds complexity instead of removing it.

That's why I start with clarity: what matters now, who owns what, and how progress is measured.

From there come better decisions which lead to less noise and better alignment.

And once the fog lifts, teams move faster - not by pushing harder, but by pulling in the same direction.

Who I Work With

Founders & Startup CTOs

Learn fast. Succeed faster.
I coach and advise early-stage leaders as they step into strategic roles - helping them avoid common missteps, stay focused on what matters, and build the confidence to lead well.

“Mark was instrumental in developing our technology roadmap, strategy and team. He is a seasoned technology leader with invaluable experience and skills.”
— Mahiben Maruthappu, CEO, Cera Care

Exec Teams at Established Businesses

Sometimes it's transformation. Sometimes it's triage.
I work with exec teams who know things aren't moving fast enough - but aren't sure why. Sometimes that means helping teams rebuild their processes. Sometimes it's replacing an ageing tech stack that's grown brittle. Often, it's both.

“Mark has been instrumental in helping us define and implement a powerful new tech strategy. His vision and his ability to get people aligned on the bigger picture accelerated significantly our transformation. Working with Mark was both a pleasure and the best investment we could make to sustain our growth.”
— Isabelle Andres, Former Chief Technology, Operations & Product Officer, Believe SA

Investors & Acquirers

Clarity before and after the deal.
From pre-deal diligence to post-merger integration, I help investors and acquirers get a clear view of what's working - and what's not - across product and tech. I also support leadership hires, transitions, and targeted advisory work inside the portfolio.

“Mark has been a trusted tech adviser to Noba Capital since our first investment, supporting technology trend analysis, investment due diligence and technology support for the portfolio. What truly sets Mark apart is his ability to provide pragmatic and actionable insight to complex tech concepts and challenges. We consistently seek to leverage Mark’s input across the team and our portfolio.”
— Kevin Fuller, Founding Partner, Noba Capital

About Me

I've spent over two decades helping technology teams build better products - as a co-founder, CTO, product leader, board member and advisor.

I started my career as the tech co-founder at reed.co.uk, and helped grow it into the UK's leading job site. Since then, I've worked across industries - from media & fintech to music & edtech - with companies at every stage of growth.

I've helped companies like the Financial Times, Believe Music, and many VC-backed startups to clarify their priorities, strengthen tech & product leadership, and deliver at pace. I also sit on the board of European news brand, The Local.

Today, I run a boutique consultancy focused on helping teams work out what matters - and succeed faster. I also co-host the Teamcraft podcast (and co-author the forthcoming book) about the tradecraft, and the witchcraft of teamwork.

Teamcraft

Great teams don't just happen. They're built - through structure, communication, and a shared understanding of what good looks like.

Teamcraft is the podcast that I co-host with Dr. Andrew Maclaren about how teams actually work - and why so many don't. It draws on experience from teams in business, sports, healthcare and the military. It's not theory. It's what works in the wild.

In the podcast, and our forthcoming book, Andrew and I explore how team structure shapes delivery, how misalignment slows everything down, and how leaders can create clarity without micromanagement. If you're leading a team - or building one - it's a resource designed to help you do it better.

Notes from the field

Most product delays aren't technical.
They're caused by fuzzy goals, shifting priorities, and teams working at cross-purposes.

Not every team is stacked with superstars.
But with clarity, focus, and commitment, even an ordinary team can do excellent work.

When everything is a priority, nothing is.
If your team says this often, it's not their fault. It's a leadership issue.

Org charts don't show how things really work.
If you want to fix delivery, you need to align your teams and your tech.

Tech debt isn't the problem. Unclear ownership is.
Most “messy code” came from teams building without clear goals or guardrails.

Building your own platform isn't innovative.
It's often a costly distraction from solving the actual problem.

Strategy decks don't create strategy.
If no one uses it to make decisions, it's not a strategy - it's theatre.
